Second Visit to OklahomaOn July 31, 2006, the Searching for Bigfoot team, lead by Tom Biscardi, arrived in Atoka County Oklahoma. We had heard about some very interesting encounters in this area and drove on out to investigate. Originally, we found a newspaper clipping with a series of pictures of the creature and a story about the sightings. It was obvious to us, that the photos were faked! However, the stories did not seem to match the photos. We made the decision to call the people involved and get the story first hand. The people we talked to were genuine and sincere and we are convinced they had seen something real. The reports came separately from two households in the same area. The first one we investigated was from a woman who was in her yard and saw the creature moving near by. The second one we investigated was from a brother and sister who were out on their four-wheeler exploring their pasturelands about a 1/8 mile away from the first sighting. After arriving in Atoka County Oklahoma, we met with the first witness. She is a slightly built and physically frail grandmother who lives quietly in her country home with her husband and family. The encounter she had was so traumatic to her, that immediately after her encounter, she was rushed to a hospital suffering from a “panic attack”. She does not wish any publicity from this experience and has asked that we not use her name on our site. Not only was the sighting an overwhelming emotional experience for her, but also the association with the fake pictures has embarrassed and humiliated her and her family. Of course, this writer and this team will respect her wishes. She did, however, share her experience with us in the privacy of her home. It seems that just a few days prior to meeting us, she was sitting alone on her porch. It was about 8am and she looked out across her yard to see a large hair covered creature, resembling a huge man. She reported the creature to have been about 8 foot tall with reddish brown hair, highlighted with white or silver. She ran into the house to get her family, but was so distraught that the family called an ambulance to take her to the hospital. In fact, as she shared her experience with this team, and looked through photographs we had of similar encounters, she got so distraught that she nearly fainted before getting physically ill. The obvious stress this woman was subjected too was emphasized by the humiliation of the fake photos that had been posted. Tom Biscardi began our research with an investigation into who may have supplied those faked pictures. What we found was inconclusive, but sufficient to get the newspapers to retract the photos and to put into print that the photos and the encounter stories are totally un-related.
Tom and the team were able to bring some legitimacy back to the woman and her family after her experience of the sighting and the embarrassment of the fake pictures. As we found out, the photos first appeared on the wall of a local market, posted next to a story of the first sighting. As more interest developed by the local media a reporter stopping by the market, saw these photos and used them to enhance the original story. The owner of the market denies any responsibility for the photos or any knowledge as to who may have put them up. We also found that the brother of the market owns the local taxidermy business but also denies any connection to the photos.
The local people who had the encounters were very relieved to have their stories disassociated with the photos and were very glad to see them removed from print and the market, and to see an article posted in the local paper explaining that the pictures were totally unrelated to the actual encounters. The Searching for Bigfoot team was proud to be able to support these fine people and bring some legitimacy to their claims. The two encounters in this area happened within 12 hours of each other. The second encounter we investigated was actually the first one reported. It happened just a couple of hundred yards away from the first one we investigated and less than a day earlier. The two families involved were unaware of each other’s encounters until they saw them in the local paper. The first encounter was a sighting by a teenage brother and sister. They were out riding their quad on a remote section of their cattle ranch when they spotted the creature. They shared the experience with their parents who shared the experience with the Searching for Bigfoot team. We met with the mother of these teenagers and she and her children agreed to lead our team out onto her ranch to the area where the sighting took place. This family, the Whatleys, are recent transplants from Arizona and have a beautiful home and small cattle ranch in this part of Oklahoma. They are a young and vibrant family who work hard together as a family and enjoy a comfortable life in a rural setting in Atoka County, Oklahoma. The kids shared a story about seeing a creature about 8 feet tall that looked like a large hairy man. It appeared to them to be reddish brown in color. This is the same basic description we had heard from their neighbor and tended to verify both sightings. Ms. Whatley gave us direction to where the sightings took place and told us she would meet us out there within the next hour.
Here is a photo of Tom Biscardi meeting with some of the Whatley family in Oklahoma
The team (which also included the local TV channel news crew) split into two groups. The first group went out to the actual bottomland where the sighting took place and the second group investigated the surrounding area for food sources and cover.
This photo shows a “lean to” shelter that had been constructed by someone or something in this remote area near a watering hole.
This series of photos shows some of the wild fruits that are available for food. There are many nuts, berries, plums, figs, grapes, and “horse apples” thru-out this area. Note the last photo where a “horse apple” had been picked and eaten by this tree. These fruits are about 8 feet off the ground.
We found many signs in the area, such as this fresh tree twist.
It was our conclusion that there had been a creature passing through this area in the very recent past. We did not find anything that would indicate that the creature was still in the area, but we all agreed that the sightings that were reported to us were, in fact, credible. On this expedition we got to see first hand, how the ignorance of a few people could bring pain and emotional unease to people who are simply trying to share their experience with the rest of the world. The Searching for Bigfoot team finds itself traveling a road that has never been traveled before. We are on forefront of solving this mystery. We are meeting people who have experienced and seen things that very few people before them have been blessed enough to experience or see. It is difficult at best, for them to share their stories, but even more difficult when other people who have not been fortunate enough to know the truth, put forth their ignorance in the form of false photos, artifacts, or stories. We were glad to be able to uncover this injustice this time, but unfortunately, there are still people out there that are unaware of the pain they cause by making light of a subject of which they are totally ignorant. The team at Searching for Bigfoot Inc. strives to bring you what we see, when we see it, and as we see it. We know there is truth out there, and we will continue Searching for Bigfoot until we prove it!
