November ‘06 Cross Country Expedition

After Alabama, the Searching for Bigfoot team led by Tom Biscardi, headed north towards Wisconsin. We had heard about a state employee (Department of Natural Resources), who worked at night, picking up road kill on the highways. The employee stated that he was working alone one evening and stopped on a country road to pick up a deer carcass along side a heavily wooded area. He explained that he picked up a doe that probably weighed about 80 pounds. He threw it into the back of his truck and climbed back into the cab to fill out some paperwork. While there, he felt the truck move violently. He looked up in the rear view mirror and saw a tall, hairy creature picking up the deer carcass, which had gotten tangled in a steel ramp already in the truck. The creature picked up the deer and ramp in its arms turned and ran off. All the while, the creature remained in an upright posture, holding the deer in its arms and not in its mouth! He also said that it looked like the creature had a head similar to that of a wolf? Of course, we are aware that the creature we are searching for does not have the face of a wolf, but we can summarize that if a creature picked up a deer carcass and held it up in front of him, it would be possible to see the head of the deer silhouetted against the night sky and confuse it for the head of a creature. However, we also heard from other locals that there had been sightings of some type of creature in this area that resembled an ape with the head of a wolf on several occasions in the past? All of this simply added mystery to this particular story. Tom began his investigation by trying to contact the person who reported the incident. There had been a Sherriff’s report taken, and the local news had picked up the report from that. So, Tom’s first call was to the Sherriff’s office. He talked to the local Sherriff personally and was surprised to find that the Sherriff talked about this person who had the sighting with high regard and expressed that he, the Sherriff, felt that the man involved was very credible and clear headed when the report was taken. The Sherriff went on to say that this man had some type of encounter with some kind of creature. The only question was what the creature might have been. There was no question as to if there was an encounter, the only question was what his encounter was with! That is the question that the Searching for Bigfoot team hoped to be able to answer. The Sherriff and all of the local news media personnel were careful not to give out any information about the man who made the original report, because the man had indicated that he did not want anyone to think he was crazy and for this reason would prefer to keep his name out of the press. However, Tom is not one to give up easily and was finally able to make contact with this man. Tom also agreed to keep the man’s name out of print, but wanted to hear from him personally. Tom explained that he, Tom, had experienced first hand encounters with a similar creature six times in the past 33+ years and that he knew just how hard it is to open up to other people about it. Tom and this witness began to develop a comfortable relationship and were soon talking comfortably about this man’s experience. Tom shared with the team that like the Sherriff, Tom believed the man to be very credible and that he did in fact have some kind of encounter. The man never said he though the creature was a “Bigfoot” or anything else he might have known of. He simply said it was unlike anything he had ever seen or experienced before. So here we were. We had the story from a credible person about seeing an unknown, bi-pedal animal carrying off a deer and steel ramp in its arms in the dead of night along a lonely stretch of local highway. As is Tom’s normal method of investigation, he contacted the media and invited them along so they could witness our investigation first hand. This way, what ever we were to find; good, bad, or indifferent would be seen by the media at the same time we saw it. They would see it as we see it, hear it as we hear it, smell it as we smell it, and experience it as we experience it. We were fortunate in being able to have local TBJ4, an NBC affiliate join us on our investigation in Holly Town, Wisconsin. Cortney and her cameraman are real troopers and met us in a Church parking lot near the area of the original encounter late that night. It was about 28 degrees out and only a partial moon. We unloaded our equipment and began our investigation. Our first challenge was to find the exact spot of the encounter. We had a very detailed description from the man who had the encounter, down to the tenth of a mile from the nearest landmark. We found the general area easily. We began by looking for blood stains from the deer that had been killed. We were not able to find any signs of the road kill. We looked for any prints or disturbances in the surrounding areas, but were not able to find any. We did some calls and tree knocking, but no answers. We did all we could think to try, but were unable to attract any creatures or find any signs of any creatures. Of course it had been over a week before that the encounter took place and if this were a migrating creature, it would be long gone. Unfortunately, it looked as if this would be one of those mysteries that we were not going to be able to solve in such a short amount of time. We knew something had happened here, but we were not going to be able to find out exactly what it was. Although we were all disappointed, we were glad that we had the opportunity to at least try. We know we can’t hit pay dirt every time we go out, but we won’t let it discourage us from searching for Bigfoot!

It was time to pack up and continue on with our cross country odyssey. We still had to visit New York and Minnesota and then drive back to California.
